Banbridge is a prosperous, vibrant and healthy local community. All future
development activity will enhance this community spirit and will establish
a reputation for the town that will extend across Northern and Southern
Ireland.
The town’s population, at over fifteen thousand, favours the economically
active age group of 16-64. The burst in population growth that was experienced
during the 80s and 90s was not matched by the growth of local business,
but this is about to change. Already there is a demand for 33,000 square
feet of additional space for small companies in the area.
The Future
There are three key factors affecting Banbridge town’s economic
and social
future:
- The Regional Development Strategy identified Banbridge as one of
the main hubs in Northern Ireland.
- The Development Strategy, inspired by Banbridge District Council,
created a future vision for the town. This vision exploits the towns
excellent location and its true business potential. This strategy led
to the formation of Banbridge Community Regeneration Limited
who
are charged with seeing it through.
- With the planned developments of Bridgewater Park and Gilford
Mill
likely to create an additional 3,600 jobs, business properties in and
around the town will be in even greater demand, thus stimulating the
town centre economy and the requirement for local shops and services.
